World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.
On PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
This is not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also alter its stats. For example, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn increased by the player's skill.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other methods of rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade item s. It merely gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. item upgrading can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it does not work.
The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
