Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading the performance of them. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.
Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to upgraded Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be used on weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they are attached to. But, it's important to keep in mind that this will increase its weight, which will cause it to weigh more than it was before.
There are several types of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Jewels
Jewels can be used to boost the stats of a character or to provide additional effects in armor and weapons. They can be made through the process of jewelry crafting, where you combine a gemstone and a number of specific reagents at a jewelry table. Trinkets

Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be used in any type of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.
These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows a hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also make up for the absence of good team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by a hero's top stats.
A good rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It is best to upgrade just one crucial stat instead of two subpar ones.
